Nicola Franchetto
Lawyer in data protection, AI Act and cybersecurity. In collaboration with the ICT Legal Consulting network.
I advise companies and DPOs on the rules that govern data and artificial intelligence, from the GDPR to the AI Act, from DORA to the Data Act. Over more than ten years I have designed, implemented and audited personal-data governance frameworks internationally. A lawyer and a computer engineer, I sit between legal requirements and technical questions, turning regulatory obligations into safeguards the people who must apply them can understand.
One method, applied to every field
The method is always the same: start from the regulatory standard rather than from short-term convenience, and anchor every choice to evidence that holds up before an authority. These fields are technical and often cut across one another, so I work embedded in your tools and, for the most demanding questions, draw on the ICT Legal Consulting network. The depth of a network, with a single senior point of contact.
What I do, in concrete terms
My work covers the full compliance lifecycle for data: privacy notices, policies and procedures, Binding Corporate Rules, the record of processing activities under Article 30, impact assessments under Article 35 and breach notifications under Articles 33 and 34. I focus on Transfer Impact Assessments and standard contractual clauses for transfers, the integration of ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 controls, the response plans required by DORA and NIS2, and AI Act compliance with privacy by design.
The sectors I have worked in
I have advised organisations in banking, fashion and luxury, automotive and connected vehicles, energy, electronics, pharmaceuticals and technology, as well as electronic-communications providers and some of the most awarded mobile applications. In these settings I have handled reporting to boards, vendor-risk negotiation and stakeholder enablement in multilingual environments.
Education and distinctions
I graduated in Law from the University of Trento and earned an LL.M in IT & IP Law, with honours, jointly at Leibniz University Hannover and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. I received the Oxford University Press Law Prize as the best Erasmus student at Lancaster University. I teach courses and speak at conferences on data protection, and I am fluent in English.
